HDPE Sheet Installation Quick Start Guide
1 - Safety
- Wear safety glasses and cut-resistant gloves.
- Hearing protection recommended.
- Stable, clean work surface. Clamp the sheet before any cut or drill.
- Use plastic-rated blades/bits. Moderate feed to avoid melting.
2 - Cutting
- Mark with a straightedge and clamp securely.
- Sharp blade; slow feed to reduce heat and chipping.
- For long cuts, light water spritz. Ease edges with 120-grit sandpaper.
3 - Drilling
- Standard wood/metal bits; avoid aggressive self-feeding bits.
- Use a backer board; start slow, then steady feed. For large holes, use a hole saw.
4 - Fastening
- Predrill about +1/16 in (1.5 mm) for thermal movement; deburr.
- Use coarse-thread screws with oversized washers or pan heads. Do not overtighten.
5 - Thermal Movement
- HDPE sheets expand and contract with temperature changes.
- Due to their molecular structure, they expand more in length than in width.
- Allow proper clearance at joints and around fasteners.
6 - Finish (Optional bonding)
- Deburr/sand edges; clean with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh solvents.
- Adhesives are generally not recommended; if required, flame-treat first.
